2024 MLK Free Community Breakfast Update

MLKBreakfastCancellation2024

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."

The MLK Free Community Breakfast was the reason AALO was created. In 2008 Bob Winn, Yodit Abraha, and Marlene Rowlett decided to create an event that would bring together the African American community in the San Fernando Valley.

At that point, there was no large organized celebration for the Dr. King holiday in the SFV. These co-founders organized volunteers and asked local African American churches to help sponsor the event. The result was an astounding success with 600 people attending the event. And they say the rest is history. The MLK Free Community Breakfast is the largest MLK celebration in the SFV. The event attracts hundreds of community members, great guest speakers, influential policymakers, and talented performers.

"I just want to do God's will. And he’s allowed me to go to the mountain. And I've looked over, and I've seen the promised land! I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the promised land."
